Body work and massage, which we have been involved with for the past ten plus years has always been to us more than a career. We are convinced that a genuine bodywork is nothing less then an art. As an art, it requires a passion and an intuition, a sparkle of inspiration and a discipline.
Both art and body work are based on knowledge and a proper education but they also depend on patience, commitment, a fair amount of personal growth and a healthy physique.
We have always found it a great pleasure to work in class with therapists who are in their mid sixties or those who have been in the field for a long time.
There is a particular type of therapist that endures for fifteen, twenty years or more. He or she is always an artist rather then a manual therapist, a person who grew to better understanding of the intrinsic rules of the healing processes and a therapist’s role in it. Those people seem to be continuously open to new learning stimulus while having an aura of inner peace and creativeness. We hope that with time and experience we will be moving in that direction too.
We also feel that the core of massage and body work speaks in universal terms and therefore is easily shared with any culture and translated into any language. The “universal language” bypasses the brain and works from the instinct, sort of a gut feeling (or Hara in Eastern Therapies) helping people to be more in touch with their true self.
To explore the idea of universal body language being easily shared and universally understood a bit further, we are currently also involved with the popularization of stone therapy through workshops and retreats in Southern Europe.
Massage and body work in North America has an incredibly effective, intelligently structured and easy to implement training model. However, it has been interesting to witness how both culture and tradition always finely tune and modify information we share in different geographical locations.
